Vonnegut on Art, or, Why Kurt Would Have Been DS106 #4Life
Tuesday, June 5th, 2012Letter Home Week 2
Monday, June 4th, 2012Dear Mom,
I am still having fun at camp, however it has proven to be a learning experience. I just had a website put up for me, and I am still trying to figure it out. Since I am new to all of this, it has proven to be a little tougher than I initially expected. This is a big difference than sitting in my room for long hours writing code.
Love,
Jasmine
Letter Home Week 1
Monday, June 4th, 2012Dear mom,
With everything going on last week, I forgot to write you a letter home. Camp so far has been…… a new experience. I takes a lot of involvement, if you think that you are able to sleep the day away in the sun, think again! So far I have made a youtube, twitter, flixr, and a few other accounts. These are all new to me, but I am having fun with them.
Love,
Me<3
Letter Home: Week 2
Monday, June 4th, 2012Dear Mom,
It has been such a crazy week! I really got into the nitty gritty stuff w/ my website, got to play around a lot with wordpress, made videos, took pictures. Camp is really starting to pick up! I’m realizing though that it will be tough balancing my UMW course and this camp for the next 3 weeks, all the while still trying to work. but I WILL SURVIVE!!!
Here is a link to my website btw… http://www.mindofamasri.com. It is where I am keeping track of a lot of the stuff I’m doing in camp.
I did 3 daily creates this week! My 2 favorite were these…
- This was a picture I had to take of stone, water, and clouds… I am really amping up my phototaking abilities! haha
The second one is this…
which was a picture of the sky, for some reason I find it really asthetically pleasing to me.
On top of all these cool camp activities (check my website for more stuff!), I’ve been learning javascript and xhtml in my Web Application Development course. It is time consuming, but AWESOME stuff! Also worked a lot this week, I’ll be home for Marwa’s graduation on Friday though! I wouldn’t miss that for anything! See you in a few days.
sincerely,
mindofamasri
A story of bread and butter….
Monday, June 4th, 2012http://newdigitalstorytelling.net/2012/04/02/a-family-food-story/
The Family Food Story was an amazing digital story, and one that hit close to home for me. It really displayed Bryan Alexander’s take that digital storytelling is so multifauceted and can grasp the emotion of the person viewing it so much stronger than words. The video is a collection of family pictures, old snippets, moving frames, and audio narrative. All of those things took me on a journey through history, and really made me feel for what he was attempting to share about his grandfather.
The story seemed to go into a cycle… ending with Brad saying “just look at us”, exactly how his grandfather and great aunts used to say. He in a sense becomes the ‘grandfather’ to be of his family.
Following the plot of his Grandfather Josef’s life I plotted the ‘shape’ of the story in the manner seen in the Vonnegut video about how stories are structured relative to good and ill fortune as the story progresses…
It was very interesting how personal the story was, I have a tendency to blog my emotions or expereinces in a more vague manner. Usually expressing mself indirectly through quotes, photos, etc… but this was so DIRECT and personal. Very interesting, and dare I say, brave manner.
Skate Audio Test #01 – Springville at Night
Sunday, June 3rd, 2012A rough, six-and-a-half minute, loosely narrated audio clip from my Saturday night skate session
Inspired, of course, by Rowan Peter’s DS106 skate field recording from last year.
I found this also to be an interesting twist on verbal reports commonly used in cognitive psych research.
Letter Home: Week 1
Sunday, June 3rd, 2012Dear Mom,
Good morning! at least it is over here at Camp Magic MacGuffin
This first week has been so interesting, I really ventured into new territory and began to grasp the purpose and philosophy behind camp. I created accounts with SoundCloud, YouTube, Flickr, and many other sites. Other than twitter and YouTube I was completely unfamiliar with the rest, so I really got to explore them. It is so interesting the amount of tools and social networks online that serve different purposes!
Watching the video with Dr. Michael Wesch really opened up my eyes to a lot of things, and a new way of approaching not only the general issue of lack of passion between education and students. But my own personal case with my schooling. It really made me think about how I was really forming an identity online, hence I decided to ‘brand’ myself. Everything from my twitter account, email, website… everything is now “mindofamasri”! I think it is so cool actually haha. I can tell this camp will be a creative challenge and am really excited for it. Being in this camp as well as taking my Web Application Development course is really giving me a holistic perspective of things. In my class I’m learning the behind-the-scenes aspects of a website – scripting languages, database tools. And at Camp I’m developing the creative sense of web development, I’m glad that I am doing both at once. Hopefully by the end of the summer I’ll be an expert at both to some degree.
Okay well, I’ll write you again soon!
Sincerely,
mindofamasri
Drawing + Bugs Bunny + Wine: An Image Daily Create
Friday, June 1st, 2012Today’s Daily Create 145. I was in a drawing mood so I decided to try more than once on this Bugs Bunny drawing. My own twist is that it is Friday night and I’m having some wine with dinner. Surprisingly, I think my last Bugs Bunny head is the best one. I’m guessing practice and the relaxation of wine just helped me along.
