Week 4 Campfire

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Week Four was our first gathering around the campfire in Minecraft, where we had a group of 10+ including 2 of our UMW students.

Our guest on this week’s topic, Design, was Cheryl Colan, who got us going with a discussion of what design is, what good design is, and elements to keep in mind. Towards the end we started wandering around to explore the Wäscälly Wäbbits cave bunkhouse.

The audio Teamspeak worked excellently and Andrew Forgrave helped us out by streaming the audio out to ds106 radio- a recorded archive is below.

Week 2 Hangout

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

We had another great gathering around the fire at Camp Magic Macguffin, and in addition to our UMW student Marcey and open participants, counselors, we had a special guest in Bryan Alexander aka Dr Nemo. Author of The New Digital Storytelling: Creating Narratives with New Media, , Bryan led us in an insteresting discussion of the present role of web storytelling (is it even unique anymore) and implications for education.

We have a full archive of the antics at

Next week’s gathering will be on Thursday, June 7 at 4:00PM EST and might be inside Minecraft.

First Campfire Hangout

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

Today was our first meetup around the camp fire, and we had a full group of 10 sitting in the front row of our Google Hangout. This was our first time doing the Broadcast on Air feature, and as such able to save the recording above. For the most part this was a chance for people to get to see and know each other, and were please to see one of our UMW students, at least two of our counselors, and a good number of open online partipants.

Plus we got to try on hats and funny mustaches

We answered a few questions about Daily Creates, minecraft, blog feeds, etc. The best part, besides the overall silliness, was getting to see people both new and experienced to ds106, in one place. Look a the campfire next week Wedensday at 11:00am EST.
