So the assignment was to select a type face that represents the word you are typing. I thought this was pretty easy. There are many “fancy” swirly, cursive writing fonts on Microsoft Word. So I just picked the one I liked, copy and pasted it to Paint so I could crop it and then uploaded it onto Flickr.
So someone else already used the spray can on paint to make splatter art like Jack Pollock, that was my favorite thing to do on the computer as a kid, so I did something a little different on paint. I tried to create an abstract face using splatter paint in the Paint program. It was fun. I just let my hand swirl around the page with my computer-mouse brush. But, there us a abstract face in there if you can find it! I felt like I could see images within Pollock’s abstract art, so I wanted to make an image in mine.
This was difficult. My favorite animal is a panda and if I was using circles it would have been way easier. He is all black and white and I created him on paint. I was able to change the size of the triangles and color them in, but like I said I could only use triangles to make a traditionally round creature.
As soon as I saw the image of the kids pop up as the image for the assignment I thought, I am going to use a pregnancy photo. I knew I wanted to portray the message that it takes more then one person to create life. So I used the phrase “It takes more then one person to create something wonderful.” This was to be used metaphorically with the idea that creative commons wants people to be able to share there creations and ideas so that others may use them to well…create something wonderful! I went ahead and added in the symbol of creative commons (CC) and the symbol of the “By owner” to my photo and put in small lettering at the bottom who the photo originally belonged to. The original owner of the photo has a CC of “some rights reserved,” she just wants her name credited with the use of her photo. I then chose blue lettering for my “rally poster cry” so that it would pop out to the viewer, seeing how the rest of the image is in grey, black, or white.
This week I chose to do the splash the color assignment. The reason I chose to do this one, is because I feel that this type of art is very cool. I actually did this assignment on my iPhone. I downloaded a color editor app and swiped my finger across the area that I wanted to be in color.
Creative Commons gives people options to their copyrights. Whenever someone creates a new work their creation is automatically copyrighted under “all rights reserved.” Creative Commons allows people to share their work with others (if they want) under different conditions. So I can allow my work to be shared, tweaked, and/or remixed by anyone or maybe only commercially and/or non-commercially. It is not an alternative to copyright, but rather works with copyright and allows for easy flexibility of the copyright laws that are automatically provided to everyone. It is FREE!!!!
From now on I plan on licensing my work under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Share Alike (CC BY-NC-SA). I chose this setting because I am fine with people wanting to use and expand off my ideas, as long as I am recognized for my work. I also do not like the idea of someone making a profit off my ideas, I mean I am being nice and sharing aren’t I? So I guess you could call me selfish in that aspect which is why I only want my work to be shared Non-commercially.

Another week of camp gone by. Just writing to give you another update on how things are. This week was a very easy week for the most part. We had to do a safari of our every day lives. Where we took pictures of random things that we saw and them used to them to review design concepts. It was totally amazing to me some of the hidden design concepts that I didn’t even know existed.
We also learned about the Creative Commons. The CC is basically a copyright group that allows you to share projects and ideas legally without getting permission from the actual producer of the work. Maybe in a couple of years, I’ll be copyrighting some of my work through the CC for other people to use.
Well, I have some other work I need to get to. I hope all is well at home.
First I got a picture of Dr.Oblivion off of google images, then I used paint to create this poster. I thought this was a cool quick assignment I used red because I think it makes the poster seem more urgent.
Camp is now over (see the final story. If you are craving an experience like this, head over to ds106 and see how to participate. For more on the Summer of Magic Macguffin, see.....
