Mashing Up Movies Underwater

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Sadly, I don’t really watch too many movies, but the few movies I watch are mainly animated. Why? I am a big kid at heart and animated movies has a way of keeping me young. Well, that is my story and I’m sticking to it. The assignment that allowed me to mash up movies, was one that I over-looked first. Then as I was going through the other assignments I got an idea of how to do this assignment.

My favorite movie of all time is TAKEN. Which is about a CIA agents who’s daughter gets kidnapped and he has to look for her. My favorite childhood movies were FINDING NEMO, which is about a fish that is separated from his father, and he father has to find him;  and DUDE, WHERE’S MY CAR, which is about a boy that basically looks for his car the whole movie. My favorite animated movie on from Disney is CARS. Which is about a race car that gets lost and finds himself in a deserted town. The car’s name is Lightning McQueen and all he wants is to get back to the big race.

What I did was take the 4 movies and put them into one poster. Which is below..

I created a whole new movie, called “Taken 2: Finding Lightning McQueen” [Taken 2] is from the movie TAKEN, [Finding] is from FINDING NEMO, and [Lightning McQueen] is from CARS. The poster includes a picture of [Dory] from the movie FINDING NEMO and a quote. The quote [Dude, Where's my Car] is from the movie DUDE WHERE’S MY CAR. In all the 4 movies are combined into a poster for a new movie

THE PROCESS

1. downloaded the photo of Dory from Google

2. saved it to my computer

3. opened the program Photovisi

4. Imported the photo of Dory as my background

5. Clicked “ADD TEXT” in Photovisi

6. Added the quotes and dragged them to where I wanted them.

7. Saved the project

8. Downloaded it to my computer

9. uploaded it to my blog

This project did not take long to do. It was very fun, but had to be done decent. I hope you enjoyed it. For more [Mashup that Movie]

Lethal Weapon Series: 4 Movies, 1 Trailer

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Mashup Assignment 135 (4 stars) called for making a movie trailer by taking a trilogy, or any series of movies, and combining scenes from all the trailers to make one trailer. This was an easier assignment, and considering all my problem with video editing, I figured I could probably handle this one with a minimum of frustration. For the subject of this assignment, I decided to make a trailer montage for one of my favorite movie series, Lethal Weapon.

Turns out I was right. After downloading the four individual HD trailers for the Lethal Weapon movies from YouTube, I imported them all into VideoPad to splice them together. Starting with the first movie, Lethal Weapon, I cropped off extra material at the end of the trailer that I didn’t want to keep. Then I added the next trailer for Lethal Weapon 2, to the video track immediately after the first one. Again, some trimming to make the resulting “uni-trailer” a little shorter and transitions less obvious, I added the third and fourth videos trailers for Lethal Weapon 3 and Lethal Weapon 4. Admittedly, the transitions between segments are not as smooth and more obvious as would have liked, but the damned video editing software is making my crazy, so I did my best and settled for that.

And if you haven’t seen the Lethal Weapon movies yet…I hope this teases you  into it! Working on this task has reignited my love for these movies so I see a movie marathon coming in the near future! :)

Mashing Up Daily Creates

Friday, July 20th, 2012

I accepted cogdog’s challenge last week to do daily creates every day for seven days. As of today, I’m going on 8, but I haven’t done today’s yet. Anyway, since issuing his challenge there has been more consistent participation on The Daily Create site, so the timing was good to do Mashup Assignment 609 (5 stars).

I started by reviewing the TDC archives for July 11-17, 2012. Two of these were video so I decided to start with those and fit the others in like puzzle pieces! Starting with Martha’s mysterious The Most Amazing Technology video (tdc189), I downloaded it and imported it into VideoPad. I think this is when I decided to go with an ominous, mystery compilation, building on the mood of her video. Moving along, I assessed the other tdcs and proceeded to fit them together. I turned TDC 185 – tornado by Malyn Mawby into a video by applying the film effect to make it move and shimmy like a real tornado. Importing it back into VideoPad, I positioned it at the beginning of the track and overlayed Tdc190 boilingwater by Malyn Mawby as a soundtrack over the tornado for additional effect.

For the next segment, I used No TV. Just static (tdc187) by Audrey Watters. Overlayed on this segment of track is the Morse code sound bits from the NCH Sound Effects Library, included in VideoPad, and a short piece of TDC188 Telemarketing Call by mrswanson. I trimmed this soundclip down to fit the video piece and keep the overall project to a shorter time. I added two more Morse code sound bits on the end to transition into Martha’s technology video segment.

To wind down the entire project and include a few more tdc projects, I inserted a blank slide after her video to showcase My strongest attraction #tdc191 by Martha and emphasize her statement of being the most amazing thing she’s ever experienced. After that clip, I merged two photos, by inserting Jacques Cartier, Over the St. Lawrence by aforgrave (tdc184) into the video track and overlaying it with a cropped version of Rainbows by robertss (tdc186). To wrap it all up, I inserted scrolling credits to the contributor’s projects that helped create this compilation.

In the end, I used 8 tdcs instead of the required 7. This was a fun project to do, even though, yet again the final product is not exactly as fluid as I envisioned it to be.

I hope I’ve done cogdog and ds106 proud with this new Mashup Assignment!

Recap of all the bits and pieces that made this assignment special:

REMIX; Creating a NEW assignment

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

This week we are doing a lot of remixes. When I got my Remix assignment, I was a little afraid. I didn’t know how exactly to remix a “5 seconds of fame” video. After thinking and thinking a thinking, I finally came up with a remix assignment. This assignment is called “IDENTIFY THIS SOUND” The steps to creating this video are as followed.

1. Take a short video clip (preferably 5 seconds)

2. Take the audio from the video.

3. Play ONLY the audio portion of the video.

5. Ask the viewer, “Can you Identify this sound”

6. Give the viewer at least 3 answer choices of what the sound could be

7. Give the viewer some time to think and then reveal the answer

8. Show the video clip, and see if you viewer guessed it right.

My video people, is a Remix of Jasmine’s 5 Sec of fame

Creating this assignment took a lot of time, but it wasn’t too hard. The steps to creating this were

1. downloading the video from Youtube using SaveVid

2. Saving the downloaded video to my computer as a MP4 video file

3. Opening the saved video in an sound editing application called WavePad

4. Extracting the sound from the original video

5. Saving the extracted sound as an MP3 audio file

6. Creating a PowerPoint and saving the slides as individual jpg pictures

7. Combining the images, audio file, and original video into a single movie using Windows Live Movie Maker

8. Publishing the created video to Youtube

9 Lives Remixed Dr. Seuss Style

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

So I used the remix generator and it gave me a remix of the 9 Lives assignment and the twist was to use an aspect of a Dr.Seuss character. I chose to use the Grinch as my character and I found different pictures of the character online and labeled them like they were pictures from different Christmases. I think this is a fun twist to the assignment and I thought it was fun.

Lord of 300 Rings

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

For this I chose to combine two of my favorite scenes from both movies, I used the sound of the last scene from the movie “300″ and the visual from Lord of The Rings Return of the King. Both of these scenes are similar because they are Pre battle inspirational speeches so that why I think it works. I used real player to get the two separate clips into VideoPad then I muted the audio for the LOTR clip and added the 300 clip to the audio only level. I then clipped it to mesh better with the visual clip. I think this is a fun assignment it really lets you choose what ever you want I had a couple different ideas but most of them had already been used so it seems that I have a similar mind to past ds106ers.

Exs in Texas

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

For my music mapped video I chose to do the George Strait “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” I chose this songs because I really like George Straits music and this song. For me I found it difficult to get the google maps into Video pad, the way I was able to do it was I saved the maps into a pdf then copy and pasted them into paint and then cropped them to what I wanted. This took a while to figure out but eventually worked out. getting the song was much easier because I already had it in my iTunes so I was able to just drag it over into VideoPad and use it. I thought this was fun mapping out the places he mentions where his Ex’s are its almost a map of places for him to avoid when in Texas.

Remixed Album Cover

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

Rihanna is my favorite artist(if you all haven’t noticed by now) and I know every single one of her songs. When I saw the album cover assignment, I knew exactly what to do. Rihanna has a song called “S&M” which in reference to sexual acts. It stands for Sadism and Masochism-The practice of using pain as a sexual stimulant. That is NOT the reason why I chose this cover. But on the “S&M” cover, she appears to be eating something, so I changed the “S&M” to Spaghetti and Meatballs.

Remixed Album Cover

This was very easy to do. Here are the steps

1. Went to Google

2. Typed in “S&M” album cover

3. Downloaded it to my cell phone

4. Opened up “PicsArt” (or whatever photo editor you have)

5. Imported the picture to PicsArt”

6. Selected “ADD TEXT”

7. Typed in what I wanted, dragged and dropped it on the picture.

It only took me about 15/20 minutes, but that was without WIFI, so it should be easier.. I hope you like my new creation.. and if you want to here the “S&M” song.. ->Click Here. –>S&M -Rihanna<<–

Bad parenting* (or how I got to watch great movies as a kid)

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

When I think back to my childhood, I think about ice-cream sandwiches, playing Barbies, hours of swimming with my cousins, making clubhouses in a copse of spindly trees, the babysitter asking me if it was ok for her to smoke in the house (turns out it wasn’t), and watching some great, but entirely inappropriate, movies.  In my early years of elementary school I was watching Jaws, Halloween, and The Shining.  I discussed the merits of Nightmare on Elm Street on the school bus.  Jesus, was I eight-years-old when that came out in 1984?  I definitely didn’t see it in the theater, so maybe I was 9 or 10.  My point is that I was young.

It’s not like I was sneaking around to watch these movies.  My parents knew that my sister and I watched horror films.  My cousins’ parents knew what they were watching too.  It was all perfectly fine as long as we didn’t have nightmares.  It may sound like a totally insane parenting philosophy, but I’m thankful that I grew up that way.  There wasn’t a lot of parental oversight when it came to what I watched, read, or listened to.  If something made me uncomfortable, I stopped watching.  If a book was over my head, it was probably boring, so I stopped reading.  I appreciate that autonomy, and hope I can raise my son with some modified version of that.  I think I’d like to have more open discussion concerning the media and art he brings home when the time comes.

So here’s a short video on three movies that impacted the most.  They should’ve been terrifying.  They should’ve left me afraid of the ocean and afraid of the boogeyman, instead I’m left with some unforgettable memories of growing up free range with my sister and cousins.

* For the record, I don’t really think that my parents’ choice to let me watch these movies was bad parenting.  I think I turned out ok in the end.

Monday, July 16th, 2012

This is a review of my iHome, I love this thing besides my computer and cell phone this is probably my most useful object because it wakes me up when I need to get up and it keeps my Ipod charged and I love my music so without it I would be at a loss.
